How this happened

On July 17, the Sagaponack Village Board of Trustees voted to make Gibson Beach exclusive to Sagaponack Village residents. At the July 17th meeting, the Mayor named ONE Sagaponack Village resident Judah Klausner as having been “after this for quite a while.” (Remember the guy who tried to get dogs banned from Gibson a few years ago? Yes, him.)

The board still has to decide if they would even allow non-residents to buy permits– but the Mayor has already suggested having it for “only village residents and see how that works.

Do you live in Sag Harbor? Bridgehampton? Water Mill? Southampton? You will not be able to park at Gibson next year.

Are you a Sagaponack resident with friends in surrounding towns? No easy group beach picnics or running into friends.

What makes this even more egregious is that the 2023-2024 budget cycle, 41% of the Village’s budget came from State funding. The Village was even scolded by the State comptroller’s office for their reliance on state funds.

Our tax dollars pay for the Village and they’re using them to make the beach exclusive.
